Well the past 2 times ive been out driving my 03 cobra ive noticed a strange thud coming from under the car (seems like the trunk area) as i switch gears. Its only in 1st and 2nd it seems and its not even 100% of the time. Also i started feeling almost like something was rubbing the shifter when i leave my hand on it in 1st/2nd. Its hard to hear or listen to anything while im driving because of exhaust but i definitly feel and hear the thud. I cant really feel anything wrong driving wise, but the car is relitivly new to me (2 months maybe) and i just want to see if anyone has any thoughts about these noises. I recently had it at the ford dealership but knowing them, they would just ignore something like this till it breaks.

 

Clunks are supposedly real common in the 03/04s. I know mine does it just about everytime I put it in first gear. Never really done it in second though..

 

ok just making sure:P ive never had it happen in any other car, i thought maybe something was loose. its pretty much only in 1st, rarely in 2nd. Just didnt want the trans to drop out on my next ride because some little screw came undone.

 

Have you ever checked the two forward bolts holding the irs subframe yet. Ford installed 12mm in the 2000r and some of the 03 cobras instead of 14mm by accident. It causes a clunk. Mine had 14mm but it is a late 03 build. I have a few friends with 03 cobras that had 12mm including one with a 2000r. they all clunked. It's an easy fix if that is the problem.
