99 Cobra question

99 Cobra question
so im parting out my v6 and looking at trying to get a 99 or 01 cobra. ive got around 10000 bucks to spend. Ive looked at the 99 cobra and seen that they had the recalls and stuff but at the same time heard that its a great car. What are you guys opinions. ive found a 99 for 9500 with 69000 miles on it. Good deal? and another thing that has me wanting one of these is just because its a cobra. therefore if i decide to sell it later it will have a higher resale than say like a 2003 gt mustang. Thanks guys

Pretty much all the 99 Cobras have been fixed. They had 3 major problems:
Faulty Cat Converters
Upper Intake Plenum Design Flaw
Faulty Valve Seats
The way to tell if the motor has been fixed is to look for a green or black dot on the lower intake manifold.
I have a 99 and love it, get's great mpg for what it is, and a nice load of power right out of the box, can't wait to part out and sell my 95 so that I can put a Kenne Bell on my 99 to get the most out of it, but still a great car and the best Mustang I've owned with my 98 V6 coming in second, my moms 99 V6 3rd, and my 95 5.0 unfortunately coming in last.
By modern standards they aren't the fastest things around as they're going to be on par playing feild with most newer cars, however they respond pretty well to mods, and if you can come across a few thousand, you can put a low boost super charger on it, and really release some of it's potential, however, the engine isn't quite the same one used in the 03/04 Terminators, so they can't take nearly the abuse unless you upgrade the internals or swap over to a Terminator setup.

That's not a bad price at all for a 1999 Cobra with that mileage. For some perspective, I paid an even 9k for my 99 w/81k miles, and that's been almost a year ago. As already said, 99% of them had the fix performed on them, the green/blue dot is on the lower intake mani on the drivers side.
I love mine, have enjoyed owning it and modding it since day one. Granted, the 01 Cobras got the upgrades that really should have come on the 99 models (wheels, seats, rear bumper, 5-disc, etc.), but seeing as how Ford had another year to make sure they got it right since production was halted in 2000, you can't fault the 99 for that. The engine feels very strong, and it has taken well to the mid-pipe and exhaust I put on it a few weeks ago.
It's a reliable platform, and will handle moderate boost. I think everyone pretty much says 400-450whp is about all the stock block can take before it needs beefing up. I say go for it, I did and haven't looked back. You could probably talk the seller down another $500 and use the extra $1k for mods, or cleaning up some stock worn items.

I have a 99 Cobra
Drawbacks
28 spline axles shafts vs 31 spline axles shafts in 01.
01 seats look much nicer....
I would buy a 01 now but a 99 is by no means a terrible car.
If you are looking to do mild bolt-ons and stuff like that then splines are likely irrelevant
