Lightbulb Weight reduction help!!

Ive been doin alot of racing in my cobra and thinking about dropin a couple lbs. Without having to buy anything in to replace what i take out. Ive already done the obvious reductions like spare tire and and tools out. Ive got a 96 with 4:10s and 275 bfg drag radials running 13.7 1/4mile times and i hook really good off the line. Any advice on how to put her on a diet....

Since the factory gears are gone, take the dog bone off the bottom of the differential(I think that is around 12lbs, maybe more). For trips to the track, it only takes me a total of 4 minutes to remove the passenger seat and rear seat lower cushion which is around 55lbs together. Also remove the front swaybar for the track, this drops 15-20lbs from the front of the car and also helps the weight transfer quite a bit on launch. Be sure there is no windshield washer fluid in the resevoir (1 gal of water is about 8lbs on the front of the car). It is a very good idea to relocate the battery to the trunk (35-38lbs of weight off the front corner to the right rear corner). I am not aware of any other items that don't require the purchase of replacement parts (a tubular K-member would be my next suggestion). I only run between 1/8 & 3/16 a tank of gas at the track(a gallon of gas is around 6.5lbs). You can always drop a litttle weight off the driver... LOL

13.7 you need some more track time.

I ran a 13.7 on street tires and bone stock besides a set of mufflers.

what was your 60' time?

I also agree with the lightweight wheels/tires(roatating mass at a fairly large radius is a great place to reduce weight), but I thought your question was about things you can do without buying new parts to replace...

...It was, BUT I thought I might as well throw that out there!!! I weight my "Stock" OEM Cobra Wheels/tires, 58 lbs. per WHEEL!!!! <----Can't race like that!!! FYI: AZA wheels/tire 51 lbs per wheel....Weld wheel/tire 22 lbs per wheel/tire (up front)

Rotating weight plays a huge part getting these cars to go!!

Plus im sure the ac delete must take off 10-20lbs also. Im considering moving the battery to the back also but what exactly am i looking at for time labor and material

WOW!!! 58lbs!?!?
I swap my factory 17x8 bullitt wheels onto the front of my car for drag runs because they weigh "only" 42lbs each, while my 17x9 bullitts weigh 49lbs each. I don't think my 17x10.5s weigh 58lbs, but I haven't weighed one yet.

Yes, those 58lbs wheels need to go!
