Default 320 hp

When these cars are rated for 320 hp in 2001 Do they usually pull 320 horse?Besides tune and chip what are other inexpensive ways off adding hp?

Be aware that the rated HP on factory vehicles are flywheel HP not RWHP. Typically, a manual trans car will lose around 15% of that power as it transfers through the drivetrain. Therefore, 320 flywheel HP equates to approximately 278rwhp in a manual trans car. That 320 drops to around 267rwhp in an auto trans car, because the HP loss through an auto trans drivetrain is typically around 20%.

Exhaust is usually a good place to free up a little HP. Cats and factory mufflers tend to restrict exhaust gas flow. Adding long tube headers will help HP a fair amount, but it can be a real pain to install on some cars. It won't add HP, but changing the rear gears from stock to 3.73, 3.90, or 4.10 will make a car accellerate noticably quicker (this is one of the best bang for the buck mods). At a minimum, upgrade the air filter to a K&N, or upgrade to a cold air intake for the best results. Other mods may depend a lot on which engine configuration you have.

i agree with trueblue specially about the gears those cars really need a better gear it will be night and day diff...there are of course many things that you can do to add bolt on hp exhaust intake tune....as far as superchargers it is a great way to use your motor to the best of its ability...of course changing things and adding hp will shorter the life of a motor but its not gonna change it so that its blown in a few months it all depends on the TUNE!! you can push alot of hp more then whats rated for the lower end of the motor so that will drastically shorten its life or you can do a conservative safe tune yet have upper 400hp...as far as price its all what your looking for and what you budget is...you can pick up a 2k centrifugal sc or a 5k kenne bell...but like i said before the life of the motor comes right back to the tune...

I agree with venom, driveability and durability all come down to the tune.

yes superchargers puts a lot more ware on your car. im no mech so my description is very basic. in a nut shell, the supercharger uses your engine to power itself so while you do put out more power your engine will run much harder and hotter as a result for turning it.
you can get some decent chargers at about 4k.

That would also depend on how hard one runs their S/C'd vehicle. If they stay out of boost for the duration of ownership, then there is a better chance that the vehicle's engine/drivetrain/etc will last longer. But of course, most young males will NOT be nice to their newly acquired power, muwahaha!

Kenne Bell or Whipple would be a great choice for the 4v........but there are other options.

No...superchargers do not make you're car "wear" faster, they simply make the chances of breaking something greater if you're pushing the limits of your drivetrain and engine.
