Default 2004 Cobra with bad engine

Does anyone know what an 04 Cobra coupe with a bad engine is worth? The car overheated numerous times and has been sitting for 2 years. He doesn't have it for sale and I was thinking of making him an offer. It probably has about 40k on it. I'm thinking of offering my 2000 GT plus cash (just got the title for it today). Any thoughts?

Maybe $2000 with most of that value for the S/C.

That is an interesting question. A junkyard motor goes for what $6K-$7K these days? Car itself is worth $17Kish. I wouldn't pay a cent over $9K for it and it would have to be in stellar condition. Your GT and $1500 is what I would offer.

ya man i would ****** that up if you have some extra cash to rebuild the motor...honestly its just cheaper to pay a shop to rebuild it then to go junkyard one that you have no clue if it runs!! but i do agree JC316

your gt is probably worth 7-8k? depending on your area of course, i wouldnt add more than 2k cash, thats if like the person above said the body is nice along with the interior. You can rebuild the motor relitivly cheap and come out under the price of the going rate for a 04 easily.

Sorry I thought you meant the value of the motor. The car may still be worth around 8-10 grand, but since it needs a new motor I wouldn't give a dime over 10,000 for the car as the motor will run around $6000 + shipping and time to install.

Yeah, if it's rebuildable, then it's a totally different story. Even if the block was cracked, I would just go with a Teksid block, then forge the internals and slap the H/C/I on it.

Thanks for all of the input. I just added some more pics of my GT in my garage. I ordered a Steeda shifter for it a couple days ago and it won't be here until Monday and going to change it when I get it. I'm going to be changing the throwout bearing tomorrow, after that I'll try to find the Cobra owner. While the tranny is out I'll check the clutch. It should be fine, it feels great. I called up the local Ford dealer that I used to work at and list on a reman long block was like $5900 list (not sure because it didn't really matter) the parts guy I worked with can get it for $3900 + needed gaskets. I don't know what the warranty is on the motor, and didn't ask.

With the case that it overheated a bunch of times and the last time the needle was pegged into the red, so I don't think it would be worth it to rebuild. I would think that the heads would be warped from overheating.
