Considering 1998 Cobra purchase---??

Default Considering 1998 Cobra purchase---??

Hello Everyone,

Considering purchasing my first Cobra after owning 2 GT's (94/95) covertibles.

I have found a 98 Cobra convertible with 112,000 miles.

I am located 6 hours from the vehicle--- the owner is telling me the only issue is he hears possible 'piston slap' from 'one' of the cylinders which would need new rings.

The colors are what I am looking for and the cash price he will sell for is $6400.

? thoughts on the price and the potential to put new rings in??

Umm with mechanical issues and 112k miles I wouldn't consider it for that price.

I paid $7800 for mine and it had 98K miles and no mechanical issues. If you really want it, talk him down in price. . . I think I'd pay $5k max, preferably less.

+1 no way I'd pay anything over 5k for a car with possible piston slap

Thanks for your responses guys.

Unfortunately with me being 6 hours away, it could be a long day and come home empty handed.

My only experience with 'piston slap' was with one of my previously owned snowmobiles. The repair included the pistons as well as the rings and was very painfull.

Any guesses on the $$ for re-ringing all 8 pistons??

How many miles are too many??

And by piston slap he means spun rod bearing. Do not buy that car for anything more than 3500$. New motors are costly

Buddy of mine baught his 97 cobra leather black with 70k for 6k. Just keep looking for a deal for that money you can get a very good working cobra or atleast one with a diff problem other then piston slap.

I would run away if I were you!!!
