Default Motor Noise

Hi everyone, great site.

Have a 97 Cobra, 33k miles, once the engine warms up it starts making a rattling sound. It doesn't sound like a heavy thumping noise, more like a light tapping. It only does it intermittently for a few seconds then stops and will do it again moments later. Does the pausing indicate whether or not its the motor or an accessory? Heres a better video with sound...you can hear it the very first few seconds and then again around the 20 sec mark. Thanks

for me the sound file is messed up. I can hear good for like 3 secs at the start then nothing till the end and its all messed up. Could just be my computer though as i tend not to update things when they pop up.

Im no engine guy but ussually what i see them ask is: Does the sound/speed increase with rpm increase? Like i said im no engine guy at all, you may have better luck asking this on a more engine based part of this forum, or even in the svt section of corral.net

That's pretty much how my engine sounded. Hopefully you don't have the same damage. I had a little ticking sound. Gradually it got louder and louder. When I hit the accelerator I could actually hear somEthing rattling inside of the engine. Took it to the dealership and I had threw a rod. The mechanic showed me the oil that they had drained from the engine and it was full of metal shavings. The car is fixed now and I should be getting it back this week

i cant tell at all from the vid...but like redneck said if its motor it usually changes with rpm...from your description it sounds like a valve tick or a rocker or something in the top end

Ok I just took off the serpentine belt and the noise stopped. Any ideas? it sounds like its around the a/c, tensioner, idle pulley area

I dont understand though because it is a pattern. It will tap a few secs (5-8sec) then stop for about 10-15 secs then repeats and it doesnt change with rpms either way.
