Default How reliable is the 97 cobra motor?

Hi Guy's,

I'm looking at picking up a 97 Cobra with a 100,000 miles on it and I just wanna make sure that the motor is going to last awhile as long as I take care of it. Please give me some insight on your experiences with this engine. Thanks

Dave

It all depends on how well it was taken care of.

Those prices could be reasonable depending on where you live, what mods are done, and what shape it's in.
If you post an ad of a peticular car we could help you but I'd say in general a 96-98 cobra with 100k miles would be about $7000

I got mine for $7000 3 years ago and it was in great condition, mostly stock, and 15k miles on the engine

One nice thing ...Is the block is a Teksid(best damn block made for big HP out of the 4.6s made"design\made in Italy" if that gives you a hint) and crank is forged
That's a plus
they also say the B heads love F\I .
Only real down fall is piston and rods good for about 400HP,after that your pushing it.

Like other members stated, its how the old owner took care of it.
But the 4.6 Liter in general is great motor for reliability.
100k really is nothing for these motors.
Im close myself to reaching that 100k on my 97 4V with no issues and its still a beast

Just my 2 from a 97 owner

With proper maintence and care, near stock power level you can get an easy 200-250k out of it.

I have a 98 Cobra with 119K on the odometer and she still runs like a champ! I bought it a couple months ago and I paid $7,000 for it; still $1,800 under NADA
