Chasing cooling problem help!
Ok, so I have a 1996 Cobra and I am having the classic overheating problem. Engine runs hot, not quite over to the red line but significant enough to feel the engine "strain". I'm familiar with the problem Ford had when it was new and am almost 100% certain the TSB had been performed because I had a 97 radiator in it. So, first thing I tried was replacing the thermostat. Same thing... I also replaced the radiator with a Mishimoto aluminum radiator, as well as the water pump and the belt. Still having the same problem, but it's running even hotter. What do you guys think? I'm beginning to wonder if it's really running hot or is the gage messed up? Could it be anything else?
Haha it definitely has good heat! But I think I've actually found the problem. I plugged a scanner into it to see what the other sensor is saying the water temp is, and it will run 208-215... Does that sound like a "normal" temp? Being it was very hot yesterday I saw it peak out at 219. On the instrument cluster it was reading extremely hot whether it was 208 or 215. So, the culprit has to be the sensor! Argh... Should have tried that first before I changed everything else!!
