Default IRS Question

I just picked up a clean IRS in a damn good deal yesterday....how can I tell, without tearing into it, what year it is? Any specific part numbers I can look for? I have read that the termi's had larger pinion flanges but havne't seen any dimensions to go by...

Any info is great. Thanks!

I'll count out a 99 possibly.

AFAIK, my stock 99 IRS has rounded subframe bolts with an allen head. It's the bolt that people typically get "low profile" ones, or grind them down due to tire rubbing.

I don't know what kind of shocks the 99/01's came with but I believe stock 03/04 cobras came with Bilstein shocks...which it looks like you have in the picture.

I see a partial part # on the half shaft. it is the yellow tag the Ford # starts "2R3V" it should have a few more #'s followed by a couple of Letters put that # in and google it and if it comes back as a 28 spline you have a 99 IRS

2r3v-138AA is the number on the tag. I have tried looking it up but I am not having any luck yet. There are other numbers below it but I haven't looked them up yet

You can call Ford parts department and have them supply you with axle part numbers for all 4 years of the cobra if you play your cards right lol

I talked with the guy I got it from and he said it was a termi IRS...he doesn't know a whole lot but I haven't found anything yet to tell me different. I know it has 3.55's in it right now and an aftermarket brace..at least the red brace doesn't look factory from what I can tell lol.

I know I just need to pull an axle and count the inner spline for a closer answer. I just wish someone could tell me the pinion size or the driveshaft size, bolt spread dimentions...something lol

If your wondering if the pinion flange is different than a SRA the answer is yes. Just put the pinion flange from the SRA on the IRS and your DS will bolt right in. This is what I did for my swap.
And stop calling it a "Termi" it's Terminator "termi" makes the car sound gay

Those are 03-04 cv shafts. As to the rest of it who can say for sure. 03-04s also came with a front differential torque brace.
