Default Trans ? on 97 Cobra

Hi all, I just bought a 97 Cobra is runs greater and shifts good other then. If i put the car in second gear and let my hand off of the stick it pops in neutral. Is this a normal thing. All other gears seem to be fine. It will stay in gear if i hold it down in second until i let the clutch out. Please let me know if anybody has a idea. Thanks

i had the same problem with my 97.i took it back to dealer since i had extended warranty and got whole new tranny installed.still nt sure wich one they put in all i know is that it says tremec underneath on the side. i really dont think its a 3550 tremec so im not sure.all i know is that it works great. that was after the first t45 blew up and got repaced with warranty. t45 arent the best. now i have supercharger and im glad i got rid of t45.it wouldnt of held up.

That is not normal...but it could be something that is easy or at least cheap to fix...I would think that it is a broken or loose input gear bearing retainer...but it could turn out to be something totally different when the transmission is taken apart.

doe's your car have an aftermarket shifter? if it does the stop bolts might be out of adjustment.to check.remove the leather shifter boot and check if ther is one.if you have the original shifter it may be the shifter cup going bad too.i had the same problem and replacing the cup solved the problem for me.just something to look into.it could be a syncro going bad also.good luck

oh yeah, sorry i kinda ignored the actual question. its the synchros that are most likely bad. there is a synchro kit the dealer installs so im sure thats most likely the problem.not too bad of a problem to fix except for the teardown.

MAN THESE TRANNYS SUCK IN THE 96-98 COBRAS!! I HAVE BEEN THROUGH 3 T-45 TRANNYS IN 4 MONTHS IM A HEAVY RACER BUT THE SYNCROS WERE ALWAYS GOIN BAD. IT WOULD EITHER GET STUCK IN GEAR OR WOULDNT GO IN ALSO THE SHIFT ALWAYS FELT A LITTLE RUFF. I INVESTED IN A TKO 5 SPEED THAT TRANNY IS FULL PROF I POWER SHIFT I DRIVE THE CAR REAL HARD THAT TRANNY IS NICE AND SMOOTH IF YOU R GOING TO BUY A NEW TRANNY LOOK IN TO A TKO 5 GET RID OF THAT PROBLEMATIC T-45
