Hello all. I am hoping I could get some help figuring out what kind of performance part the attached picture is. This little black box is attached to a wire set that comes up the passenger side firewall and across the firewall of the car. If you unscrew the box there is a computer chip in it with 3 dials. The car has a superchip that I located in the actual computer of the car, so I assume this is not a tuner chip but I am not sure. I disconnected where it was grounded and found the car to run a little poor so I know it has some impact on the cars performance. It’s definitely it a stock part. Any ideas? I recently bought the car with very little information on the mods from the previous owners.

 

Some of the older tuner chips had several components to them. The actual 'chip' that sits on the ECU, a controller box that sits away from it where A/F adjustments can be made or different programs selected, a wire harness, and sometimes an easy access switch to select which tune you want.

I'm guessing that box is the A/F adjustment box for the chip on the ECU, thus the dials. The only way to know is to trace the wires completely. If any of them tie back to the chip, then that's definitely what it is.

STI made it in 2009, you can see the info on the circuit board, maybe they're still in business and can tell you WTF that is!
