Considering Cobra; Advice Wanted!
A little background: I just sold my S-Trim supercharged '94 LT4396 Corvette and am looking for a car to play with that's solid, modern, and amenable to monkeying with it! The 030/04 Cobra is at the top of my list right now. My daily driver is an '03 CL600 BiTurbo with Renntech Stage III, running 640hp. It runs mid-11s, but I'm afraid to touch anything under the hood for fear of breaking a plastic clip that costs $1500 :-)
Anyhow, here are my basic pre-purchase questions... some of them might be newbie FAQs, but please bear with me!
a) Is a system available to tune it with a laptop? I'm used to reprogramming my LT4's timing, target AFR, and so on, and don't want to go the "magic block box" Hypertech route.
b) With stronger half-shafts and so forth can the IRS be made to hook up? You can run 10s on a Corvette IRS Dana44, but every Cobra I've seen at our local track had really poor times due to wheel hop.
c) Is there a basic "recipe" for high 10s on motor? I've read a bit about the KB blower, but I'm really new to SVT Mustangs.
Thanks!

all your questions will be answered "yes".
With detailed information as "how to".
Good luck.

As Black stated, svtperf is the best location to find any info you want on the 03/04 cobra. However, you will find you can spend countless hours searching thru meaningless posts about what to do to make power, especially since the search function kinda sux in my opinion. You will also find a bunch of arrogant a-holes over there that tell n00bies to "just do a search" to find something that would have been just easier for them to type. So what if it is posted in 1000 posts? Dont get me wrong, I am pro - svtperf, but somethings could be better about it. Good luck!
Again, just as Black pointed out in the typical svtperf response, the answers to your questions are yes, but here's a bit more info to get you pointed in the right direction:
a) Yes, there are software packages available to tuners from SCT and from Diablosport.
b) There are many things you can do to the IRS to make it hook. It is expensive, but so is a built solid. The level-5 halfshafts are around 1300, then you can play around with bushings and the rest of the suspension components. Probably the best thing you can do is to add subframe connectors, full length.
c) I've seen many different combos here to achieve this. Some claim they run 10s on their stock blower with an upper and lower pulley change. Others need NOS plus the stock blower, then there's the Whipple and the KB, but even then it's funny to see the 600+ hp KB's run high 11s because they can't hook with all that HP and the stock IRS.
You can't go wrong with the Cobra, it's a fun toy. If you have any other specific questions, I'm always on svtperformance, so pm me under the same screen name.
Good luck.
