Default Superchargers

I recently bought myself a 99 cobra.....so far ive added flowmaster american thunder catback exhaust with an H-pipe......

I was just wondering what specific supercharger would best fit my car and give me the most gain possible.

Thanks

It all depends on what YOU want and $.

Turbo is the best, most powerful way to go though.

You might want to get some specific info from someone that has actually SCed a 99 or 01 Cobra. The Compression Ratio is big factor on what you can do with a SC and I think those 2 engines have higher CR than the other 4.6s.

The CR is 9.85:1. From what I understand the engine should be ok with single digit boost levels. I am also interested in a 99 or 01 Cobra with the intent of supercharging it. Right now, if I were to do it, I am leaning toward an intercooled Procharger.

Say, if you haven't already looked at the Kenne Bell, you aught to. I have been researching superchargers for about a month or so for my 97. If I am not mistaken we run the same compression. They are able to give us a supercharger that is more capable then the 03 and 04 models. The Kenne Bell delivers more boost overall and the boost kicks in at lower RPMs. (this is for DJ) Keep one thing in mind... there was a TSB (technical service bulletin) for the 99 cobra engine. It was making about 28 or so horses less then what Ford sold them as. I am not sure how much the fix costs and I haven't read a whole lot about it, just thought you may want to know about that before buying one. I think that Kenne Bell also says something about that power difference in their tech information section (which is really a good thing to read if you aren't an expert on supercharging already). One fix for the power difference that they suggest is to change the pulley on the blower. Apparently, the problem with the 99 can be corrected with this change. There was something about cam tolerences and valve seating. The pulley change would only compensate for the loss of boost due to the problem in the design, not boost the crap out of the engine. I have posted the web page with the supercharger options that they give.

I am about a month or so away from installing one on mine, as I have a lot of work yet to do on it. In all of my searching, I haven't heard one bad thing about the Kenne Bell, so that is most likely what is going to be spinning the wheels for me. When I get it done I will write a little bit about how it turns out. If you wait until then, I will have some good first hand experience to offer. If I were you though, and had the money, I probably wouldn't wait.

good luck!

I also looked into the Kenne Bell...somehow I am not convinced that they are the best for the street. Maybe it's my misunderstanding but I don't know how they can effectively keep the intake charge temp down on that unit. Kenne Bell has a section that talks about how intercooling does not increase hp. This is true...but what they don't say is that intercooling allows you to run more boost which does increase hp. They sort of ignore the fact that intercooling is key for a pump gas car. They offer an intercooling option, I assume its an air-to-water which isn't going to be as good as an air to air. Water temps in the engine can run pretty hot and the intercooler, I assume, would have to be buried under the charger actually inside the engine. The other aspect is the sensitivity of the stock knock sensors. The KB unit adds a lot of extra vibration into the engine compartment...I know they relocate the knock sensors but I am not sure I like that. It seems like they are trying to adapt a system for street use that is more suited to running at the drag strip on racing fuel.
