I'm probably not supposed to vote since I'm not in Texas, but we do get stopped here in Colorado. My congressman keeps running bills to do away with the front plate, he always says, "apparently without a front plate, Colorado would become totally lawless". I say charge the same registration but only issue one plate, make more money on each car.

Well, right NOW I'm not running a front plate. But, since I still don't have my plates, that's OK. I'll be sporting a nice new Texas plate front and back as soon as they come in. BTW, I once was pulled over and given a warning for not having a front plate so it does happen.

I don't run a plate. I've never been stopped for it, technically. They came to my house and noticed it was not mounted because I had backed in. Threatened it was a towable offense.

Needless to say I, said yessir nossir and haven't ever been pulled over since.

From your avatar, it looks like the dealer installed your front bracket (which includes drilling into the bumper). I didn't even think about a front plate until I found the bracket in the trunk when I brought the car home yesterday.

I really don't want to put holes in the front bumper cover if I don't have to!

DPS says its required to be on the bumper. I had the one on my truck in the windshield and got pulled over several times, but never got a ticket for it.

When I first got it, I was worried about being ticketed for it, so I got a mod to put it on without having to poke holes in it, but the thing kept falling off (3m tape inside the bumper cover) so i just removed it and have not put it back on. I have never been questioned about my missing plate in all the times I've been pulled over.

I'm in Austin.
Years ago, a girlfriend and I were driving back from California in her Jeep Cherokee. She didn't have a plate on the front either, and as soon as we made a left turn to get off of I10 and onto 290 towards Fredericksburg. we were going the speed limit and a cop pulled us over just for that missing plate. If I recall, it was a county sheriff, but I could be mistaken. We were in a pack of about 6 cars (didn't know them) driving along and the cop was going slower than everyone until we passed him. It was 10 years ago.

That looks like a great option. You get your plate, keep it legal and drill no holes. BTW, have you though about where to put the plate (centered of off center)?

^I'm thinking centered, but I'll have to play around with it to see how it looks off center.
