Fun w/ Numbers - Supercharger vs. V8
#15
Go test drive both and see which one you prefer. The GT not only gives you a more powerful engine but a better suspension as well(still could use some improvement but still better than the V6). Also the GTs can be had for cheaper than you think. Just gotta know how to work out a good deal. You could probably get a brand new fully loaded GT for about $25k

16.5k will get you a fully loaded v8 in great condition with a few months left on the warranty and a glass roof which is sold separately but included in the price. If you are incredibly lucky, but is reasonable for the market, the hard part is finding it.
That's the sort of thing that is in reach but will come along once every month if you look for 2 hours every day.
As to the forced induction v6 vs v8:
Supercharged:
The v6 will push 465 hp 490 tq, enough to beat a GT500 on stock internals with $8k invested in parts, any more and it won't be safe and will begin to be a track car.
The v8 will push 535 hp 520 tq with $10k invested in parts, any more and it will be more of track car and 510 hp and 505 tq with $8k.
both will push 850 hp with $19k invested supercharged (engine swap).
Turbocharged:
The v6 will push 500 hp 525 tq with stock internals, any more and it won't be safe and will begin to be a track car. Costing $6k
The v8 will push 550 hp 550 tq with stock internals, safely, with $6k invested.
Both will push 1200 hp with 20k invested.

EDIT: If its rwhp all your numbers are wrong. Sure, a car can do a dyno pull once or twice for a trophy dyno sheet, but at the track, its not happening. None of those numbers are safe on the stock internals for the 4.0. None. No one has pushed the 4.0 past high 10's. Only two people have done it. And I know Paul went through his share of motors doing it, not to mention you get severe valve float with the stock valve springs. There are only a handful of people that are running anywhere near these high power levels on the 4.0, stock or built, Flapjack, Fazm, Buckman, myself, Armycook, PHP, Powerhouse and maybe one or two, but thats it.
And 1200 HP, for 20k. Have you talked to Justin Burcham , Vinny Barber or Evolution on what it took them to get S197 to 1200?
I don't want to see a new member join up, read your post, put 15psi to these 4.0's thinking it will hold...then wonder why he/she widowed the block.
I have an idea, go to s197forum.com, put this post up.....and then let us know how it goes.

Not to mention unless you have an engine dyno, crank numbers don't mean squat. Thats why no one uses them except for car salesmen. The math is never accurate once you start modding a car.
