Friend of mine has a 74 with a 318 and a 3 speed auto. Has some work done to it. I think he runs close to a 15.0 at bandimere. Keep in mind the altitude there is 5000+ feet.

id need to know more about the car...

the 318 is a weak *** engine...and i dont know what a 504/274 cam even is. how about 508/294? those old mopar 4-speeds are good transmissions, but theyre typical old manuals...rough from gear to gear and such, and unless he has good tires, its not going to be easy to launch. i have demon, which is probably a bit lighter than his dart, with a cam/intake/hooker headers, stock bottom end, very mild heads, 3000 stall and 3.23 gears...and i only ran 13.50s. i would bet that hes making quite a bit less power, and the 4-speed is harder to launch, so i would expect mid to high 14s, at best.

i knew a guy with a 360 cuda, and he was running in the low 13s. he went to a 4-speed and thinking that he had the extra gear so he could deal with more rear gearing, he went to something liek a 4.30 gear for street use, and last i saw he was struggling to get back into the 13s. the manual transmission is a cruel bitch, especially on a car with 35 year old suspension.

whats done to your new edge?

so your car should be what...mid 13s? i dont think that its capable of running mid 13s...but who knows. as little is done to my demon, i was only hoping for it to get into the 13s, and it ran mid 13s..but i have a bigger motor and a built auto trans.

i guess that he could have some custom grind camshaft, but ive run every variation that mopar has for the small blocks and ive not heard of a 504/274. i run the 508/294 in my demon...

1250 feet, per the track website. in my white car, my original 318 was stock from top to bottom and with gears and a 3-speed it ran in the low 16s, but my 318 was an 83, so it was a "smog motor"...the earlier 318s were better engines, stock than my 318 was...but my 340 fixed that.

Ha, I was just waiting for ROTM to pipe in on this one.

Not many of us have that much knowledge on mid 70's mopars.

its because there is seldom a reason to worry about them...unless you have a car that CANT get into the 16s...however, people are finding that they can get one of the 73-77 mopars dirt cheap and get the same performance out of them as any of the "popular" older mopars.
