Default Question on race

ok not sure if we will actually ever race, but i was curious my buddy just got a 91 camaro rs with the 305 i was just wondering how our v6's matched up against these. Does anyone know or has anyone raced one, my car has exhaust and an intake not requiring tune and i think the only thing his really has is a b&m shifter and maybe exhaust, otherwise both are automatics. just curious if anyone has any info. thanks

( and yes when he bought it i asked him when he was going to grow out his mullet )

well first off... u may get flamed if you're intending on racing anywhere other than the track.

secondly, i think you can take him. just my hunch

0-60 for those is about 7.5 seconds i think and I imagine yours is about 6.8 or something so it will be close but you would probably come out with the win

ok well i mean i don't race full out ever on the street, at most we have a section of road thats on a highway with a stop so at most when i do i don't go over 70 and the speed limit is 65, and i had heard the 305 was a dog just wasnt' sure no one ever talks about it, at the least his has like 180,000 some miles so his would probably just blow up anyways lol thanks for the info guys

the 305 you're talking about is the old TBI. they make a wopping 190bhp and 235ft/lbs. to give you a good idea, my Camaro with the 140hp 3.1 v6 held dead even with one till 80mph. you're talking a high 16 second car on a great day. if someone swapped up to a TPI on that car though, you'll have a race. TPI 305's made 230bhp and 260ft/lbs and were quite a bit quicker.

btw, the 305 is a hard engine to kill. my buddy ran an open 50lb Nitrous bottle straight into the intake on his Caprice and never blew it up. the bottle ran dry before the engine even started running rough

how about a this match up?

Mine:
2006 V6 Auto
BamaTuned 93oct
C&L Intake
Pypes X-Pipe & Mids
GT M/T Take-off Mufflers
18" American Muscle Deep Dish Wheels
Rears are 285/40R18 KDW2's so i can hook it no problem from the launch.

His:
1987 IROC-Z Automatic w/ Weld-In Flo-Pro mufflers
now here's where some confusion may set in.
It was originally a 5.0TPI car but has a 5.7 swapped in from another IROC.
The only thing changed was the motor and PCM. the rear gears are still the stock 2.73's from the 5.0TPI option instead of the 3.23's he should have if it was an original 5.7 car.
Now, he ran a best of 15.2x with a dying fuel pump so what should i expect now that the car isn't going to have fuel issues?

What year IROC, LS1 maybe? In that case you are toast. If it's still an LT1 no biggie.
