What does a New Edge need to beat a stock 08 STI?
Hey Guys,
First off, my apologies because I did a search and found 2 pages of threads on the same topic and so I know that its been done just about a million times.
That being said, a good buddy of mine is trading in his '07 Subaru Outback (a total yuppie-mobile) towards a bone stock '08 STI in a couple weeks and I was wondering what bolt ons itd take to beat him.
I know the "easy" route would be a supercharger but being in college, I don't have the dough for that. Right now my '00 GT has a K&N FIPK, Steeda Tri-Ax and Flowmaster Catbacks and correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt that's enough to beat an STI.
I'm eventually (within the next month or so) going to pick up an MRT Catted-H Pipe and Ford Racing 3.73s. Would that be enough to at least not get embarrassed by him? And if not what if I threw in Steeda Underdrive Pullies or an Accufab 70mm Throttle Body?
Thanks a lot for the input guys,
Christian

To hang from a dig you're gonna need some sticky tires at least, and pretty much full bolt ons and gears imo.
If you want to waste him for cheap, just slap on a 75-100 shot. It won't be even close then lol.

Just dont go from a dig and you'll be fine. They don't have super trap speeds and the AWD is a top end drain. Just hope he keeps it stock for a while. The 4 banger turbos likes the mods and responds real well to small stuff like a tune or open down pipe.

OP, you're going to have tough time with him on just bolt ons. I know thats not what you want to hear. The AWD doesn't do all that great up top, but the STI still has way more top end than the 2v. You're best bet is to get yourself some 4.10s, some suspension mods (LCAs,UCAs, front end weight reduction, springs, adjustable shocks, etc) some sticky tires, and try to out launch him and hold him off through the 1/8th mile. If you want to stay close up top, you need full bolt ons and some cams. I'm not saying you can't hang with some of the new STIs with less mods, but if that new STI has a good pilot, you're going to need the majority of that mod list. Good luck dued!

stick a banana in his tail pipes when he's not looking before the race lol.
You're not going to be able to beat him with the limited amount of money, unless you go Nitrous and slicks.
You only have to run better than a 13.1 in order to win.

My friend's 08 ran a 14.0 on his first time out. 2.0 60'. For comparison's sake I ran a 13.9 with the same 60' and my mods. At the time I had 28.5" tires on weighing 34lbs. each. Not sure how much that affected me.
I'm going to guess you'll need at least 260whp to be competitive in this situation.
