Default Got My First Speeding Ticket- Tips?

Hey guys,

So I managed to get lucky enough to get my first speeding ticket last Thursday night and I wish I could say it was doing something way more bad *** haha.

The cop, who caught me going the opposite direction said I was doing 47 in a 30 (I thought the speed limit was 35.) I saw him as I passed some douche drifting over into my lane about to push me wide into oncoming traffic so I sped up to avoid an accident. When I saw the cop coming the other way, I looked down and saw I was doing around 42.

The cop then whipped around, cut someone off and pulled me over. The cop was generally nice to me and explained why he pulled me over and changed my ticket from 47 in a 30 to 45 in a 30 which wouldn't be as many points on my license. The cop said that if I showed up to court and the judge contacted him he'd support whatever the judge said, including dropping my ticket because "I was decent to him."

So I plan on showing up to court because I can't really afford the ticket, let alone the insurance raise and I was wondering if you guys had any tips to beat the ticket? The ticket says the cop got me on radar but, how could he get me on radar accurately when he was driving the other direction? I didn't know it was possible. Anyways- what do you guys think I could do to avoid this ticket.

Thanks!

+1. I don't even bother wasting my time in court any more for just a speeding ticket. Just do some research and find a lawyer that is in tight with the local judges, give them their $150 and be done with it.

This is probably going to get moved to another section of this forum btw.

Radar can get you no matter what direction you are going.

IBT O/T

I doubt you'd be able to claim you weren't going the speed that he wrote the ticket for. And ofcourse the excuse of passing someone who was drifting in your lane (claim you saw they were on a cell phone) isn't going to work too well, the best control you have is to slow down and get behind them.

If you admit you were going to fast and made a mistake about what the speed limit was maybe they'll knock it down or do something i dunno, i haven't been in that situation. honesty/politeness goes a long way.

Honesty is the worst policy... they will offer you a standard deduction for most tickets like 9 over, but you have a reckless ticket, 15 over and they are likely to not do anything. You can go talk to the DA and see if they would agree to give you the 9 over deduction in light of your guilty plea and your clean driving record. If not, ask for a continuance and get a lawyer, and you may get the same 9 over deduction or possibly improper equipment, but most DA offices wont do that for a reckless ticket. Of course if you already admitted to it when you were pulled then the game is already over. Dress nice for court, wear a coat and tie.

Saw an article recently that stated that 90% of people just PAY the ticket and of the 10% who fight it in court, 90% are successful in getting the ticket squashed... so odds are in your favor to FIGHT IT! I've yet to go to court and not win...

if it's your first ticket the judge should be pretty lenient... ask for impeding traffic, you will pay more money but not get any points

in the end the money is what they want and no points is what you want

What you say Morbid? I couldn't help but stare for a minute there...*continues staring*

OH! yeah if I were you OP, I would def take it to court. Find out if it was a 30 or 35, take photos to prove if it was wrong. My only ticket was like that, but it was out of state, so I paid $$$ and went on with my life. He said I was in a 25 but we were in a 35, he said I was going 34 mph. If I felt like taking a full day off work and outta my life, I would have fought it and won, but I didn't care. You however care, so fight it. Hire a lawyer if you need to.

I have to learn how to talk to cops the way my bro can.. he has been pulled over doing 60 in a 25, going the wrong way down a 1 way, drunk, high, running red lights, evading the cops, pulls into a gas station, and says, 'watch this' gets out of the car and starts filling up and when the cops come up he is like wow whats going on someone rob the place? they talk a bit.

gets off with a warning..

another time he ran stop signs and doing 50 in a 25 and did a similiar thing.. except the cop was right behind him the whole time.. he got a ticket for careless driving that time, but atleast nothing for the drugs/drunk

this was all when he was much younger and had no responisbilities, he didn't really care.. he is a good boy now. (for the most part)

I get threatend with a ticket on x-mas eve for doing 66 in a 60 on a highway... and they usually dont even pull you over unless you are doing 10+ over here.
