Turbo genesis coupe? Outcome?
Hey guys, I recently had a friend who received a Hyundai genesis coupe for his bday (lucky bastard ), and its the 2.0 turbo version. Nice car, especially around the bends from what I hear. But he insists on a drag race with me, and after checking the specs in detail on those things it seems our curb weight is VERY similar, and horsepower from what I gather is identical 210 with regular gas (we're broke college kids so no premium for him lol). And it seems torque is relatively similar (217 for him) as well.
He has no mods save for a tune-less CAI (idk how those cars respond to those). While I have the standard CAI/tune, and a recently a gt muffler (probably no power gain there lol). He's even got a 5spd auto, same as mine.
I was wondering (since I know little about turbos), if my N/A v6 would be better for a 1/4 mile run, or his turbo? I was always under the impression that a turbo will always experience some lag? Or would he make that loss back up, in the top end?
Thanks for your time guys, I appreciate it. I'll try to get a vid or something this time since its a planned event. Again, thanks!

IMO, it'll be pretty close up to 80 mph, since you've got a tune and such. He should pull you up top since you guys are about even on power and he has the aero advantage. He's definitely got the edge if you guys start going mod for mod, however. Should be an interesting race, let us know if you guys end up running.

I'm thinking it'll be pretty close. He has a weight advantage. But your extra mods should cancel that. If anything he'll propably start to walk away on the top end so make it a senseable race to 110. Or if you prefer a roll try a 40 to 120.

@stone, I'll definitely let you guys know how it goes! Thanks for the help! I just hope I can get through at least a tie, he really has it out for mustangs haha.

Its my understanding that the 2.0T in the Genesis is a detuned EVO engine, not sure if the turbo specs are the same, kind of doubt it though.
Either way, I haven't seen too many 2.0T coupes doing anything overly impressive. Not sure why, I figured tuners would jump all over those cars and show us what's up.

They are low to mid 15 second cars in stock form. Not impressive at all for a turbo car. They run an ever so slightly smaller turbo than a SRT-4. Dont really understand why the tuners didn't run wild with them A big turbo and rear drive would have made it a street monster. Maybe the motor can't handle big HP numbers??? A dig to 100 is probably your best bet.

I'd say it would be a very close race, unless he had a manual.. then I'd say he would win
I love the auto trans and all, but even for my 08 GT with it being stock- it was an absolute dog compared to it with a real tune and CAI.
