Default 2006 GTO @ E-Town

Hey,

Going to E-town tomorrow night with my friend, wanted to know what you guys think he can manage.

2006 GTO - A4

- Full Exhaust with Kooks and cutouts
- CAI
- ECS Dyno Tune

Not far from stock but it pulls hard. I think he made almost 400rwhp on a dynojet.

Only problem is stock tires. He will only have 3 runs.....any techniques?

Traction being the limiting factor, a 12.99 would be awesome!

Thanks!

If he doesn't get greedy with the throttle, he could easily run a 12.6-12.9 on a 2.0 60'. Kind of doubt he'll be able to pull it off unless he has some track experience though. In reality, he'll probably be stuck in the low 13s, maybe a 12.9. The car is definitely capable of close to/around mid 12s on street tires with practice. All I can say is for him to follow the rules for dodging water, short burnout, and ROLL into the throttle nice and slow. Counting to 2 or 3 while pressing the throttle works pretty good. (Count 1 and press the gas 1/4 way, then on 2 press it 1/2-3/4, and then WOT)... it works pretty good for people on street tires.

Damn that fast? So it sounds like low 12s with DRs if he could get them. He looked and could not find any that could fit the factory 18s because they only have wide diameter in 18" but the stock wheels are skinny

I'll have to give him that advice of rolling into the throttle. He's no stranger to the track but is not used to piloting a rwd car or something this fast (fwd grand ams). Any other tips? Looking like awesome weather tonight and provided he can hook he should do well. Any idea of what he should be trapping?

aren't those GTOs limited in wheel size because of how small the wheel wells are? Morbid Intentions I'm sure could say something about it.

Yes that's true. That's the problem there only seem to be wide 18" DRs which won't fit, e.g. there are no 245 DRs only 285 etc....

245 DRs will hook good enough. If he wants wider tires then he will need to roll the fenders.

He should trap on up there in the 109-110 range.

Slap a set of 17s with 245s on it for the track?

Not a bad idea. Now for tonight should he powerbrake or just hammer it and flash the converter?

Also tire psi? I imagine burnout until he sees smoke right?

Do not stall it up or flash it. Leave off idle and roll into it nice and easy!! Quick 2-3 second burnout, just enough to see smoke like you said.

Thought I'd add that there is a way to preload the rear suspension on the GTOs. I used to do it on my 04 GTO, but it takes some finesse to not over do it. Basically, you footbrake it until the rear end squats all the way down and on the leave you basically lift off the brake and find the spot in the throttle that keeps the a$$ down without breaking loose. It works well on the Goats since they squat pretty hard anyway versus having a stiff suspension and staying level. It will be harder for your buddy to do with the extra power though. Its worth trying if the track is not crowded and he can get plenty of runs in, but if its one of those nights where you're lucky to get 2-3 runs, I would stick with leaving off idle and rolling into it.
