cobra vs a zl1?
there's a guy a town over from me that bought a zl1, and my buddy who works at the dealer ship he bought it from(he's been in a lot, already got a new motor) is going to try and hook something up for me for a race. wondering what you guys would think the outcome will be. I have nothing to base the car off of other than motortrend times and stuff, and they're low 12's at 116-118. if that's correct then i'd imagine that i would edge one out from a lower roll, maybe 1-2 cars on him from a 30-140?

I don't really know, but my guess is you guys will be very close. Since he is new to the car I would give the edge to you until he gets more used to his car.
What do you mean 'already got a new motor'? Is the ZL1 on its second engine?

yup, he's actually getting another zl1 now, the motor leaked oil and it was found the block was pourous and it was leaking from there so it got replaced. then "supposedly" he was driving on the expressway and the electronic steering malfunctioned and it went sharply to the right and into a ditch, totalled. The car is getting replaced now because gm classified it as a lemon.

It'll be a very close race, I'd imagine. Not a whole lot of real world results out of those cars yet. Fully expect you to pull though.
Another engine already? Damn..

that's why i dont like using magazine times as i have no idea if it's faster than that, and i haven't seen any thing posted yet about cobras racing zl1's.

Just going off the weight of both cars and both making around the same BHP/RWHP, and both of your cars using a roots blower....gotta be a close run. Hard to say without knowing what/if any nannies are holding the ZL1 back, etc. I can't find any vids either, just a bunch of ZL1 Vs GT500 vids and a couple of newbs running low 13s at 109mph thru the 1/4, lol.

He had some crap luck, and then throw almost dying on top of it.... one ****ty deal.
ZL1's are running mid to high 12's on average based on almost every slip I've seen posted about, including on c5.
They're trapping anywhere from 111-116.
If you're trapping 116+ on a regular basis, you'll roll one hard.

yup thats the guy 72. i just talked to my buddy again and i guess that wasn't even his car he was using it thru gm or some ****? i dunno, lots of different stories from everyone i talk to about it lol.
but anyways, i agree stone, i still think a 116 trap seems pretty low for the power. but then again ya never know. they dyno almost 500 at the wheels, and weighing close to 4k lbs(this correct?) i guess it could be right.
