Default Drag Tires

Ok so my brother in law gave me a set he had laying around. they are mickey Thompson et streets 28x11.5 16. I had them mounted up and well I can get almost no traction on the streets by my house. I tried warming them up for a good 15 seconds or so and still the same even tried a second gear burnout to get them hotter but I started to burn up my clutch. Im only launching at 2500 so it seems odd. Looked a little closer and the tires are from 2004!! Im going to assume this is why I cant hook at all. What would be a good tire to get Im looking at some hoosiers 255s or should I go with a d/r. My mods are in the sig and this was all done running n/a.

How much air do you have in them? You'll burn up your clutch trying to do a burnout with drag radials, with no water. Being from 2004 should not be causing that much difference. Does the rubber still feel soft? A drag radial feels really soft if you push your finger nail into it and it will leave an indention.

Is it a smooth asphalt road?

They are still soft. It wont leave a indention with my nail but they feel almost like felt. The side walls are getting dry rot too. The road I was on was fairly good asphalt. Also I had the at 15 psi. It just seemed odd to literally smoke them when launching then hitting second and smoking them too. My 235 street tires hook better.

Sounds like they are past their prime and you shouldn't be able to spin them that easily. I've used two different brands and both feel almost spongy compared to regular tires.

Get rid of them. The best bias plys I've tried are Hoosier QTPs. I run a 27x11.5x15 QTP and they absolutely hook.

Those tires sound kinda sketchy. I'm with Diabolical on the QTPs.
Do you have any suspension mods?

+1 QTPs Dead Hook on our nitrous S10 off the Trans brake. They're steamrollers though.

*edit - On the track, not the street.

I was wondering the same thing. I know I start to sound like a broken record on these forums, but UPR's spherical bushing (rod end) suspension absolutely made the difference for me at the track. I messed around with other brands and poly bushings. Didn't do it for me. The set-up I have now is a keeper.
