Default Dealing with a Locked SCT X2 - Somebody sold me a dud!

Last fall I purchased a used SCT X2 from somebody on my local Kijiji, the guy promised that it was unlocked from the previous vehicle and that it would work - turns out he lied to me.

Now that I've done the mods for my car I thought I was ready to purchase a tune and enjoy the fruits of my labour, looks like now I need to resolve the tuner issue first.

I'm surprised by how little inside information there is posted on forums about unlocking these things, everyone's response is that it's $100 or $150 to have it unlocked by SCT, but is that really the only option?

If somebody, anybody, has some good information on these X2s and unlocking them please let me know. PM's welcome.

I don't want to admit that I've just completely wasted my $130.

Thanks so much!
Jeff

I don't know of any other option, but I'm a noob.

Contact SCT, pray they actually respond, and go from there.

That does seem like a lot of coin. Especially if you are going to be paying them for new tunes later. Wonder why it costs so dang much?

Going through SCT is the only way, unless of course, your licensed by them or a dealer..

Because the tuner is now being used on two cars which it was designed to prevent. You are basically paying for the license to use it plus a little labor for unlocking it.

Once its unlocked you dont have to pay SCT for new tunes. You can download all the canned tunes direct from the SCT Site including the new ones each year.

VMP Tuning gets $100 to unlock. I havnt checked through other sources.

Help me out here Gene, I've done a fair bit of research in hopes of finding a solution to my X2 tuner problem but I've never read anything about X2 tunes being offered on SCT's website. If what you're saying is true, I would gladly pay VMP for the unlock, although I question the $100 unlocking fee - do you know anyone who's had it done for that price?

But even the $150 unlock charge from SCT would be alright if I could find the tunes that you're talking about posted online for free.

Can you please point me in the right direction?

Cheers!

your bs detector is properly calibrated

you cant download free canned tunes from the sct site

but if your a licensed pro racer user they supply you with canned value files to apply to your stock tune
