2-Step
Hey guys Im new to the whole tuner thing, exactly what is a 2-step? I have a general idea of what it is and what it does but can someone just clarify it for me and tell me how it works ect?
Thanks
Thanks
A 2-step is a 2 stage rev limiter. Basically it allows you to have a separate rev limiter for when the car is sitting still vs when the car is in motion. It is helpful for drag racers so they can keep the throttle floored and keep the rpm at whatever rpm gives them the best launch and then when the clutch (or brake in automatic apps) is released the engine will be allowed to rev freely to the normal engine rev limiter. The 1st stage or step can be changed to whatever the desired rpm suits your application. When set properly, the use of a 2-step can result in considerably more consistent launches.
The rev limiter on our cars works by the PCM cutting off the fuel supply to the cylinders once the preset rpm (rev limit) is reached. Once the engine falls below this rpm, the PCM will introduce more fuel. Some aftermarket additional modules can be mounted and plugged into the factory harness and operate a little differenty by cutting off spark when the rev limit is reached. The aftermarket spark cut-off is a safer way to limit rpms in boosted/nitrous applications because cutting off the fuel can cause a lean spike and possible engine damage.
That being said, a 2-step can be done either by customizing the tune on the car or buying a separate 2-step module or kit. MSD makes a very popular 2-step kit.

Thanks alot thats what I pretty much had in mind of what it was, I thought I saw on AM for one of the Tuners it had an option for 2-Step to be ON/OFF, would I need a complete other module?
