Default x-pipe???

i am putting in a custom exhaust and am planning to cut off my stock exhaust after the catalytic converters and my question is would it be more beneficial to put in an x-pipe or to have to seperate exhaust pipe running off 3 cylinders . secondly would it be a good idea to change my cats. they arent in bad shape but arent the best looking ones, wasnt sure if i should replace them while i was under there

does anyone know how they sound compared to each other?

thanks

The X-pipe isn't "necessary", but IMO it sounds better with the X-pipe than without it. And if you do decide to change the cats, look for high flow cats. You'll get a little more HP and torque due to less restricted flow.
