Why all of a sudden does my car never want to go into reverse? About 9 in 10 times when I start my car up and try to shift it into reverse, it wont go!! WTF??? What changed? I have to drive forward a little then get it into reverse. I get so damn frustrated with it!!!!!

Also, my new wheels have almost killed me twice now... I hydroplane like youve never seen, and lose control and go skidding around when I make u-turns in the rain.

Ugh. I'm mad at my car right now, sorry for venting. Any suggestions???

try putting the car in fifth before putting it into reverse. reverse isn't synchronized but 1st-5th are so you have to put it in a forward gear to get it to go in reverse sometimes. i learned that on here a LOOONG time ago and it's just second nature when i go into reverse now.

of course. nothing wrong with an automatic at all. it's not "as fun" but it's rock solid shifting.

oh, and its more bragging rights when you beat them. "**** man. i beat you with a v6.. and it was an automatic even!"

And mustgirl I think if you slowed down you prolly wouldnt hydroplane. Are your new rims lighter than the stock ones

 

i got new rims too and i have noticed they aren't as stable at higher speeds. Theres a good bit more sliding goin on

 

i cant believe some of u guys are sayin an auto is better than a stick....unless its a corvette with 400+ hp i would get a manual for everything

 

yea my reverse pisses me off to, but what i do which works alot is i put it in 2nd then straight up to 5th then slam it into reverse. thats liek the only way i can get it. thats why i suggest pulling through the parking space to avoid reverse whenever possible.

 

My reverse gives me trouble a lot too. I usually just let out the clutch, then engage it again and it will go into reverse then. I think I am going to try the trick that Juggy said next time tho.
