Maybe, maybe not, there are just too many variables in this one.
agreed, this thread has no definate answer and nobody is going to make a point that will convince anyone of something they dont want to believe, so nothing is going to be accomplished in it.

What I know (or think I do)
2000 v6- 190hp, 3100#, 3.27:1, $15,500
1998 4.6- 225hp, 3400#, 2.73 or 3.08 :1, $21,000
1996 4.6- 215hp, all else was about the same I think

I've beat them in the corners, at a light, and at the bank!

Sorry. Look at it this way. I buy a v-6 for a few thousand less and it'll hold even with the bubble 4.6(96-98) GT's until I hit the speed limiter. I weigh less, have better gearing, better braking, with a set of rims the same tire, and I'm not saddled with that lame transmision (3650?). Their only real advantages are torque and trac-loc. The torque is eaten up getting that porker moving with those gears, and I can drive my car decently to help with the other problem. Of course, if he's the better driver then I'm scewed on that last. Besides,I pay less insurance, gas, and payments (more mods). Does that help? I'm going through my mags right now to find the drive tests on these cars. I think 5.0 got a '99 v6 into the 14's right off the lot, and could only muster a 15 out of a 96 GT. They might be stored in the attic now so give me some time to quote them, and check my facts.

t45's aren't much to brag about. and this whole discussion is stupid because in the real world, what ifs don't count. you run what you brung and whoever wins wins.

ummm... 21k for a 98'GT??? Where are you getting your facts from? If you want, you can come race my close to stock 96 GT to further your research.

All I have is: 4.10's, and a CAI. Exhaust goes in Saturday.

Thanks for the correction. And you're right, but I make matching the v-8's my goal with my LX's so I like to compare. I got a '93 2.3T to blow the doors off every GT in my home town (until the cops kept nabbing me) now I have a v-6 and it's fun to have old friends wonder what I can do with it. Yes, I have taken the older GT's to school. And without my current mods. But I have also been schooled too by the newer edge models that I set as my current goal. I have yet to make up the price difference with mods.

take your v6 to the track and if you run 14's, you can keep up with a 96-98 GT. if you run low 14's you can keep up with a 99-04 GT, and if you can run mid to high 13's, maybe you can keep up with a 05+ or a mach 1.

and even if you got your car to make the same horsepower as a v8, the v8's powerband would likely be much much flatter (meaning it will have more avg. hp throughout the rpm range as a whole).

what is the curb weight of a v6 coupe? I'm pretty sure the weight difference is less than you guys make it out to be. some of you guys talk like it's 500 lbs.

WI is a long way fro OH, but win or lose it would be fun. I don't have too much on my car either: CAI, headers, shifter, swaybars, 13"fr & 12" rear brakes, KYB struts/shocks, f&r coilovers, trac-loc, al flywheel, al drive shaft, 75hp nitrous kit, and a 01gt's catback. I have a 4.2 that I'm building as cash allows but with a pregnant wife you can imagine
how long that'll take. Deffinitely won't be this weekend. That's when the baby's coming!LOL
