my 2.3 4 cyl is running rough also sometimes almost no power barely goes 30 mph wiht throttle to the floor then it just lets loose and runs well thought it might be the cat but not the prob still does it.. at times the idle just goes way down.. soemtimes stalls any ideas? thanks

 

ok, year, mileage, recent maintenance/upgrades/whatever, and a simple digital picture of your engine compartment would help.

 

92 125,000 got the car a few years ago needed trans.. did all the plugs wires etc. changed one coil pack for the drivers side of engine code says.. left side bad... isnt that the one i replaced? see if i can get a pic on here had probs doin that in the past

yeah, left is driver's side.

running rough without a code has a specific pinpoint procedure... namely checking in this order:

1) Fuel system (injectors, fuel pump, lines)
2) secondary ignition system (spark)
3) mechanical (compression, valve seating, etc)

 

sorry code was 218 which the book describes as Ignition system problem loss o f left side ignition diagnotstic monitor signal

was? does that mean that you pulled the code, cleared it after the repair and it worked fine until just now... or you pulled the code and repaired and it hasn't really been fixed yet... and the code is yet to return, or has it returned?
