Sounds like the battery is messed up and using more voltage than it can charge and dying on you

You might have blown a relay, so you should test those with your volt meter also, that might explain why your gauges go crazy

If a relay is blown the circuit it controls will not operate at all

All fixed.....it was a blown voltage regulator. What a relief. Thanks guys for all your help!
