idle surge problem
I have a friend who has a V6 Stang, who's having a problem I was hoping someone here could help me with. Since I'm a DSM'er, and I don't know too much about Mustangs, I was hoping to confer with someone on here before I went tinkering around.
What's happening is she's getting an idle surge when just sitting there. Like 600rpm or so idle, then a surge every few seconds (5- 8 sec) to like 1500+rpm.
I'm thinking it a vacume leak somewhere, I was just hoping someone could point me in the right direction.
Any links, FAQ's, or searches you could provide would be helpful.
Thanks,
Mike

if it's the same problem i had, it's probably the idle air control valve. when i had the problem, and was stopped, you could see all the gauges (i.e. voltage, oil pressure) fluctuate and the lights would dim in and out and the engine would surge. I replaced the Idle air control and it went away.
Solar GST what year is the stang? and does it have an CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON?
If it all fuel injected electronics its way easy to get it hooked up to the computer to get a for sure reading, You dont wanna be wasting money changing something that doesnt need changing.

has the same problem, i have a 95 mustang and i figured it was the water pump turning on. i put radiator coolant in to cool down the engine and not make the water pump work so hard. it worked try it out its the most cost effective and it should be the first think u should try
