need help with new cam
i just installed a new cam for my 2.3 mustang. i originally had a stock cam then i changed to a turbo cam. I use the car to race oval track. I had the RPM's up to about 6300 in 2nd gear entering the corner. I then changed to a competition cam with a 300 duration exhaust and intake. This is suppose to be the best cam we are legally allowed to use.just wondering if when I degree the cam properly will I get my rpm back to at least 6300 where i had it before. Is the rpm loss due to the fact that the cam isn't degreed??? somebody please help me I am frusterated.....Is there anything else I can do to a 2.3 L engine for performance?? I already am 38 degrees advanced on the timing(and yes it still starts...lol). I have a double barrell carb as opposed the single that most people are using. I am geared right for the track and have proper sized tires. the head is already shaved .050 and we had a valve job and what not done as well. Also the block was freshened and we put + .030 pistons in as well.... that's about all we are allowed to do legally....just looking for ideas for adjustments on what I have to gain more horsepower and acceleration....

Pick up an adjustable cam pulley. If you retard the cam timing, it will shift your powerband back upwards in the RPM range.
CheapHP.com is supposively a good supplier of circle track 2.3L parts, they might be someone to check out.

we are not allowed adjustable cam pulleys in our division. Although my dad still ended up finding a way to adjust the cam timing to 3 degrees retarded. We'll see how that works when we get out to the track saturday night. Thanks for the help.
