Default air intake Q

i was on mustang world.com and some guy made a homemade cold air intake system using some sort of tubing and brackets i was just wondering wat the outcome of that would be like any thing the same compared to the reall system? also i keep reading all these fourms that say different things so i want to clarify. about the air silencer is it recommended to take it off, like does it waste gas more. and also i want to put a k and n filter in and the bracket that it sits on the 3.8 is supposed to be removable well i cant seem to get it out can any one help me there thanks

First unscrew the one retaining bolt. You'll see it securing the filter housing to the right fenderish area inside the engine bay. (5/16" wrench'll do it)

Second, there are two latches that secure the filter housing to the mass air, one clearly visible on top of the housing, and the other along the side between the engine and the housing. Undo both of them.

Now, there are two rubber grommets that sit in two holes beneath the housing, keeping it set. Pull UP to unset the grommets, then OUT (towards the driver's side) to clear the silencer from the fenderwell. Then just pull the sum-bich up (you may need to angle it a bit, but you'll get it easy) and take the housing off.

Replace the filter and do all that backwards to resecure everything.

I hope this is what you were talking about or I'm gonna feel like a dumbazz for going into all that detail.

EDIT: This is...also assuming that you have a 99-04 V6...lol, though I think it's the same on the earlier SN95s as well

And me. I think they did it on tv though, or someone was telling me they did. I'm not sure what show it was though.
