V6 dimensions
Hey all I am new here.
I have been trolling around, for a while and i would like to fess up
I am building up a volvo 122 amazon. i am at the engine cross roads though
the engine bay (without cutting up the frame and firewall) is too small for a V8
so i was looking for a 60 degree V6 (narrow and balanced and lighter) but How big is it?
What is the wieght of the new 4.0 SOHC V6? and dimensions (Hieght, Length, Width.)
I thought of a jaguar V6 (the 3.0 225-235 HP) but it doesn't have a manual trans option, and no aftermarket support.
so i was between the GM pushrod V6 (3.4) but it doesn't have the mineral and FOrd and Volvo are more closely aligned
so here I am and what can i expect...
(any ideas of power mods- and if i can triple carburate the thing?)
thanks

4.0
The 4.0 version, although produced in Cologne like the others, was only fitted to American vehicles. The pushrod OHV engine was produced until 2000 and was used in the Ford Explorer and Ranger. Output was 160 hp (119 kW) and 225 ft·lbf (305 N·m).
Applications:
Ford Ranger/Mazda B-Series
Ford Explorer/Mazda Navajo
Cross Lander 244X
SOHC
A somewhat-related SOHC version was introduced for the 1997 Explorer alongside the pushrod. The SOHC version is the last Cologne engine still in production, though it will be phased out in 2007 in favor of the new Cyclone. It featured a variable length intake manifold and was good for 205 hp and 245 ft.lbf. Ford Power Products sells this engine as the SOHC-640.
Applications:
Ford Ranger/Mazda B-Series
Ford Explorer
Ford Aerostar
Ford Mondeo
2005-2007 Ford Mustang

what othe 60 degree Blue oval V6's are there? and which is the smallest and which is the most powerful?
I know the old Ford Europe Capri V6's were barn burner fast, and has 2.7's or something (i am only familiar with the race version) but these seem alright...
what the heck is the 3.9?

if you arent set on going carburated, a supercharged v6, either a supercoupe 3.8 or maybe even a gm 3.8 (i'd guess they're easier to find since lots of cars had that engine on their top of the line models) would be pretty cool
btw, the 3.9 is pretty much a 3.8 with the tiniest bit more stroke, not worth it.

I found the dimensions, 368 lbs, 30 inches tall, 27 inches long (why so long was this a mistake? a 302 is 27.5 inches long) and 28 inches wide.
now the hieght is no prob bubt the length is the touble. the weight is 40 lbs less than the all iron 4 banger th ecar has now.
any clue as to why it is so long? or is this a mistake or is it including a blancer up front and accessories?
and i am sure a 4.0 can make way more than 205 HP with some head work and cams- has anyone worked it over?
(what abour a DOHC set up?)
