back on to the convincing parets topic.....my parents still havent gotten me a graduation present and i was goin for a tuner so later on i could get gears....but they dont want me to spend ANY money on my car. so i can only get small things that i just kinda buy and put on then they get pissed and get over it. but i dont have 4-5 hundred for a tuner right now. how can i get my paretns to be ok w/ spending money on my car.
just keep putting more mods on it and theyll just say F**K it! i dont give a damn anymore. and then youll be set to do what ever you want!
I could see that easily backfire and they take the car away completely and give you a Daewoo[:'(]

1) american cars, so what? imports are really no better in quality these days. have you seen how many recalls toyota have been doing the past few years? mustangs last for a while. i should know
2) rwd? so what? if shes concerned about that, get an awd
3) if you drive like u have some sense in rain or snow, not true
4) i think they have pretty good test ratings

I have my heart set on a mustang, the best deal i can find so far in new york/long island is 98 red mustang with 82000 miles for 5500. My mother is under the impression that they are bad cares because -

A: they are american cares
B: they arent front wheel drive (not sure on this one, are they front wheel or no?)
C: She is under the impression they are terrible in anything but perfect clear weather.
D: She has not seen any good crashtest results of them. can anyone give me a chart or something?

Basically can you kind folks help me to convince my parents that a mustang is not a bad car?

Thanks in advance.
I got my Mustang when I was 15, I put up 5,000 (yea I saved every penny I had from working ever summer since I was 12, lol) and my parents put up 5,000. I've not had a single problem with it, it handles like a god in the rain given the correct tires and NOT DRIVING LIKE AN ***, I wouldn't know about crashtest ratings because I baby the car, and I have had no engine problems. It being an American car has nothing to do with it. If you can lose control of a 120rwhp(ish) car in good weather, you don't deserve to drive a Mustang unless the circumstances are severe.

Yea I know nanaki, but I know I'm pretty close, but the car won't be dynoed for at least another month when school starts back up, so we'll find out the exact numbers then. Put it this way, I'm gonna hope for the best, but due to the age of the car, prepare for the worst.

A: American cars are the best.
B: Front wheel drive cars are for pansies, or people that need a fuel effecient car because their old car got 14 mpg and could afford paying for a tank of gas every day
C: Get all season tires, and dont gun it in poor conditions
D: Thats because people try not to wreck cars that are better than civics...Ever notice how you only see imports totaled?

Sorry for my sarcastic help, but a mustang is really a good car. I think your parents reason D is the worst, the goal of having a car is to not wreck it. The more you know you can live if you hit a semi head on, means youd be like "Hmm, I should probably move, but Ill live"...too bad insurance will eat you alive. So you get skrewd. People who say american cars arent good quality are severly mistaken too. True imports my last longer, but you have to take the entire car apart to change the battery.

Good point..

and mustangs they do last a long time

amrcnidyot do you have a job or are they paying for it??

if they are payin for it, that may be why lol
i have a low payin job and i have paid for everything i have done to the car so far. i also pay about 130 a month on insuance and a whole s*** load for gas. they get pissed every time i get somethin new and i was hopin i could get a set of wheels or maybe just a tuner for graduation but they wont spend a dime on my car and i would get my head chopped off if i ever bought wheels myslef.

i hate to be the "anti mustang" dick here, but if you've got 5500+ to work with, i'd be looking at acura integra gsr's. why get a bottom of the barrel mustang when you can get a top of the line import? better on gas and probably insurance too. handles way better. loses less power through the driveline. gsr's can hit really low 15's stock, high 14's if you know how to rag on it and have good track conditions

Well I've got enough mods to do 0-60 in 5.7s and that's with me loosing traction and almost missed second gear. Yes, the mods in my sig are the mods "THAT I KNOW ABOUT" but there may be more on the car, but I'm not sure. The car does sound a little more aggressive than other V8 mustangs, so I may have a cam, but this I doubt, I think it just may be a combinaton of the exhaust leak and the exhaust itself.

Im not racing, im just using the car really. But i do like the occasional heavy rev of the engine. Whats louder in this case, integra, a v4 or a mustang a v6 ^^

I looked at a 3000Gt too, guy didnt get back to me yet.
