Default Battery

First time I've ever done something this stupid ...

I went to my friends house to hang out with a bunch of my friends, and left my lights on for about 5 hours. I came back to the car and realized my little keypad wasn't unlocking my car. I thought it broke. I put the key in, and tried to unlock the other side of the car to no avail, at which point I realized the battery was dead. We had my friend pull his car to the front of mine and we put the jumper cables on them both... For some reason the car wasn't giving my battery any charge. He kept giving the car gas, but we could still get no juice from it. Every time I would try and start my car it would either create sparks and stop, or just not do anything at all.

My dad brought his 5.4L Triton V8 F-150 around and hooked up the cables from my car to his, kept giving it gas for a few minutes, and I started my car up with absolutely no problems.

My questions-
Should I buy a new battery tomorrow? What kind should I buy? Would his car not have given us juice because it is an old Buick from the mid 80's with a 2.xL engine? Because my dad's V8 had no problems!

I wouldn't run out and buy a battery just yet. Chances are, if it's in good condition, it will be ok.
As for why your friends car wouldn't jump start yours, that can be many reasons. His battery, his alternator, his cables, for starters. Also if you're using cheapo jumper cables, that can be a reason too. Did you use the same cables when your dad jumped your car? were they thicker? My bet is your friend's alternator is weak, and the truck has a much bigger alternator.

Well, I've never had problems with the battery, but it is 4 years old now ...

And we used different cables, my dad had some heavy duty ones.

That's probably why it worked with your Dad's. The thinner cables won't let the current flo freely. They heat up real quick. I made a set out of welding cables. They worked great. Stay away from the elcheapos...they suck.

If your car is manual you can get a decent put start in neutral and hop in and throw her in second and she will start. Even with a dead battery.

Interstate is a great brand. But the Optima is a gel-cell. You can mount them upside down and they won't leak.

On their site under "Battery Search" I searched for my car and they don't have 2002 V6. As a matter of fact, they apparently don't have a batter for the 1997 - 2004 V6's ...

I didn't know specific cars had to have specific battery's?
