Major CPU problem/question.
I've got a problem concerning my engines cpu, or its functionality, and the worst part is that i'm not very mechanically inclined, but i'll learn REAL fast if someone can clear the cloud of confusion up for me.
Here's the scenario. I got a gangload of parts to fix up my '94 Stang 3.8 V6 and one of the parts was a new C6 tranny. The cpu doesn't see the the C6 cause it's mechanical, not AODE, so now my engine runs very poorly and, recently, stopped starting altogether. it idles ok, but when you tried to drive it, it would spit, sputter and stall out. a local dealership tells me my only reliable options are to replace the tranny or change out the entire engine to something carb'd, but they also tossed up the idea of possibly taking out the cpu and switching it with a cpu designed for a manual transmission and basically lie to it. Another idea that an auto parts store suggested was to get a tuning module (which i have NO clue how to use, btw) and completely reprogramming the cpu that way, but the dealership guys said that it wasn't possible to change a cpu made for an automatic to a manual.
so, what should i do? Hunt down a manual cpu or attempt to reprogram the current cpu (as well as all the performance curves)? This is the LAST attempt i'm putting into getting this thing running, as it's been a $5,000+/4 month nightmare from day one because of all the computer controlled garbage that's attached to it..... Otherwise, i'm scrapping it for parts and selling them all (probably here if someone's willing to buy the stuff).
Also, as a sidenote, if i do happen to get this thing running..... I got some custom Stang Cobra oversized brake calipers and rotors (they're soooo pretty) that're way too big for my custom 15" rims (yeah, they're small). you can see them almost always on sale on eBay for about $850 if you wanna see what they look like, but what i wanted to know was what is the minimum size rims i'll need to fit over these massive stopping beauties. Best i can figure is 17", but if someone knows otherwise, all the better.
Thanks from the bottom of my soul to anyone who can help. I'm at the end of my rope on this computer controlled terror on wheels..... [:@] if possible, try to layman-ize your explainations for me so i can better understand it if it gets complicated.

Performance shop..... well, that doesn't answer ANY of my questions.
Ok, fisrt, being that i'm mechanically uninclined, define 'performance shop'. Second, with the zip code 16146, do your best to find the nearest 'performance shop' in my immediate area. Then, after finding said shop, tell me how A) i should get my non-functional vehicle there and B) pay for all this with an extremely limited budget.
I don't mean to sound like a *******, bit the cheapest i can find an AODE tranny is $1,000 ($1,700 - $2,000 retail) and the cost to completely replace my engine, going that route, stands to go FAR higher, then it's a giant waste of money i don't have. As it stands, i can buy, right now, an '85 Camaro with a 350 V8 with a throttle body that functions perfectly for a grand, and NO COMPUTER CONTROLLED BS WHATSO EVER! if, for any reason, the cost of getting this hunk-of-garbage running cost more than that, i'm gonna scrap the whole thing, regardless, cause it'll be deem'd 'not worth it'. I really like my Stang, but when the cost to get it RUNNING cost more than getting a completely assembled and running car with a FAR larger engine, it's definitely NOT worth it.
BTW, nice avatar. i have that as an 800x600 wallpapaer.

Try to find a shop with a dynomometer. They can usually do what you need. Call around. If a shop doesn't have one, ask them if they know a shop that does. Do you have any car clubs near you? If so, talk to the members. It doesn't matter if it's a ricer club, or a chebby club, just as long as they know of a shop that does performance mods/repairs. It may take some leg work, and some time, but there has to be someone around there that can help you. Hell, I had to go 20 miles to the next town over to find a dyno shop. And it happened to be the only one in the county.
if you mean 'dynamometer' (i had to look it up), i'll give it a look, but i have a feeling that they're gonna tell me the same thing the dealership told me (i'm screwed). As far as car clubs (i'm guessing 'Chebby' meand Chevy), the best i know of is the Mahoning Valley Mustangs club, but i haven't been able to get a single member to return as little as an email, much less any Stang advice. and i don't give a hoot what KIND of club it is, if they can get it running for a decent price, i'll be happy.
I'm in for a SERIOUS investigation just to get this damn thing running.... maybe i should just get the Camaro with the mechanical throttle body just so i don't have to deal with this computer-controlled B.S. anymore..... all this pain over a microchip, and i build pc's for FUN...!
