Default Ignition Key

Hey, over the past couple of days when I put in my key to start my car, the key wont move, like I cant turn the key forward to get it to turn the car on. After a while of taking it in and out and playing with it, it will eventually go forward and start the car. Does anyone know why its doing this, because sometimes its get really annoyoing and takes like 5min before i can get the key to turn forward.

Sounds like a problem I had with my beater sunfire, for me it was that the key was becomming dull. With that problem I would flip the key (dont know why that worked) or use the spare. If you have a spare use that or you could try getting another cut.

Have you tried moving the steering wheel while turning the key? Because sometimes when the front wheel gets locked and you can't turn the key, you have to fiddle with the steering wheel before you can turn the key. That's happened on my '85 MR2.

I agree with both the items above.

Do you have a spare key to see if the problem is the same with both keys? If it's not, then you have a dull key. If it is, then your steering lock mechanism is getting worn and you should try moving the steering wheel while you turn the key. As mentioned, for automatics, the shifter or Nuetral Safety Switch may cause that too.

yes. when i first started driving this happened to me, didnt know to turn the steering wheel, and got really pissed so i got out of my car punched it, put a dent in the hood [i didnt care cuz it was a 87 POS] and stormed inside and was like WTF MY POS CAR WONT START. and my pops was like try moving the steering wheel around and i did so and started right up.

long story short, i put a dent in my hood for no reason!!!
