Default Automatic Transmission

What causes an auto trans to hesitate when shifting gears? When I let off the gas, the car will stay in a low gear and then shift abruptly into the next higher gear in 2-3 secs.

When was the fluid and filter last changed. Is the fluid clean. Ie: pinkish red, and doesn't stink?

Checked the fluid, looks clean, but there is too much in there. Is it possible for me to drain some of the fluid myself? Or would it be better for me to pay a mechanic to do it for me?

BTW where is the filter located, didn't see it anywhere?

Did you check it when the car is running and warmed up? If not, it's gonna show high on the dipstick. And the filter is inside the tranny. You have to drop the pan to get to it.
