Default My luck.

I learned that no one likes to do rear differentials or any kind of work to the rear end assembly.

If some of you remember two weeks ago the first shop I went to set me up for an appointment and then were no shows. So I tried another shop. I made an apointment with them for satuday the 16th. They said call back on friday the day before to make a reminder. I called that friday to remind them and they told me that an appointment for saturday was never made and was not in the computer. They said they would not be able to do it that saturday. So a week ago I set up another appointment with them for this saturday the 23rd. They said call back on friday to remind them. I called again on friday and the same thing happened. They told me an appointment for saturday was never made and it did not show in their computer. Then they told me that they were planning on being closed this saturday the 23rd. The day I scheduled with them to install it. So I called another shop. I asked if they did diffs. The guy said yes. I asked if they would install mine. The guy sounded pissed or annoyed about it. He asked why did I need a new diff put in. He agreed to do it , but by his terms. He said he does not do that kind of work on saturdays. That ruled out the one free day I had. He said on week mornigs he can do it though. I asked about friday at 9am. He agreed that 9am friday was ok, but no later. Meanig hes not going to do it if I come any later.

Ive spoke to this guy b4 and he had an attitude about it so I left him alone and tried the other shops. Now I have no choice but to go to him. I have been shafted by 1 shop, screwed over 2 times by another shop, and found a third shop that will reluctantly do it, but by their conditions which means Ill have to miss my college classes friday to get it done. Whats your experience getting a new diff put in?

Sorry this is so long but this is what Ive had to put up with on this.

Screw that, I would have asked him who the hell he thought he was, told him he just lost a customer and I was reporting him to the owner (and if he was the owner I still would've said it )

Don't go to the a-hole, there will definately be a shop available ... Where do you live?

In wilmimgton N.C. The guy wasnt pissed like that. He was nice at first. But when I mentioned doing the diff. He got alittle annoyed. He was short patient. He sound like one of those short and sweet/straight the point type of guys. He was still somewhat nice though. He gave me directions to find the shop. This conversation wasnt as bad as the one we had when I first started looking into shops to do it. Knowing how he was, i was careful not to ask to many questions about the diff job b/c thats what erked him the 1st time I called. He said week mornings M-F before 9 would be fine. He wastedno time stopping me to let me know that sturdays was not a day he did that kind of work.

The guy was a little short fused because he's probably old school. "If it's not broke, don't fix it," for the simple fact that Ford Motor Company knows what rear differential that car needs, and that's what they used. Second, if you're going to have him do it, you need to find a ride so you won't be in the shop till he finishes the car. There is nothing worse than a waiter, especially when it's a job that takes that much time, because when it's done right, it takes time. It's not like you can set up a differential in five minutes. Just drop the car off, give him your phone number, and get out of there. He will appreciate you a lot more for it.

Yeah the guy was olschool. I knew that "if it aint broke dont fix it" is what he was getting at when he asked "why do you need to replace the differential". He was short patient because he didnt want to get stuck with the job. I know the work thats involved with a rear end. And I didnt know mechanics didnt like waiters either. You sound like you are a mechanic(speaking from their view).

EDIT: So should I stick with this a$$hole or find another shop?

You guessed it. I'm a tech for Ford. Trust me when I say that with a job like that, waiters are never a good thing.

EDIT: As far as finding another shop, I can't tell you what to do because I have no clue as to whether or not this guy knows what he is doing. That's for you to decide.

Yeah I know. I started to tell that mechanic that I would take my money and bussiness somewhere else if he didnt want to do it when he got an attitude both times. Im still thinking about calling and canceling the appointment.
