Carless
Well put xeremeh, i got my car for like $13,000 when i had 2 yrs left in the marines, looking back i wished i would have purchased a older gt for like 7 or soo that way it would be paid off by time i got out. Now i am still paying for it and i make less than i did as a corporal in the marines. Soon i will be going into huntsville PD, so it will all be good again!
Huntsville? You in Texas? I was born and raised in Fort Worth, lived in Austin and The Woodlands (n of houston) for a stint. Joined the army and went to Fort Leonard Wood, MO for basic, then came straight back to Fort Hood, TX for my duty station. =P And.. yeah, watch out for those older GTs. I just got my 'stang about 2 weeks ago.. and the market around here SUCKS! it came down to:
2000 V6 w/ 33,000 miles for 8,000.
1998 GT w/ 78,000 miles for 8,900.
As much as I love the GT.. the V6 was a better price, newer, in better condition with lower miles. The way I looked at it, you can mod the **** out of it to be able to beat the stock V8, and it'll still last me longer than forever since I take care of my vehicles and don't put as many miles on them as is usual per year. I'm thinking seriously about making this a keeper fun-car, and later on down the road, once I leave teh army and need a drive-to-work vehicle (i live in the barracks.. I walk to work and chow =P), buy a little $1000 cash car to fix up and drive daily, with this for the weekends... and smoking kids in their stock GTs. =P
EDIT: Sorry! Not hijacking thread! Read the above post. It's good for you, like wheaties. =)

Nah Huntsville Alabama, i moved here with my wife, she is from this area. I am from philly (GO EAGLES!!) HAHA. yea i got my car in 04. Cant beat a 2000 with 26,000 miles for 13000 all together! Same here though, once my car is paid off i am keeping it and building the engine up with SSMS engine, parts, and eventually supercharger/Turbo.
meh it wont take muc for a splitport 3.8 to beat a npi GT
but dude, talk to ur dad as reasonable as you can. and be thankful you have ur mom helping u out. talk some sense into him, and yet at the same time let him talk some sense into you. hes just looking out for ur well being. personally, i would NEVER get a new car at 17. yet alone a new car til im at least outta college. but if you really think ull be able to make the payments when u go to college, thats gonna be the big thig. college requires A LOT more studying time than high school so be careful

if you have to take out a 72 month loan, you really don't need to be buying the car. odds are you'll end up upside down on it so if you get in a jam and have to get rid of the car, you'll be in bad shape. hopefully that doesn't happen, but i can see where your old man is coming from...probably cause mine would have reacted in a similar fashion
Im with the people in the later posts in here. Honestly I dont think that a 17 year old needs a brand new GT. I could only imagine how pissed my dad would be if I some how convinced my mom to give me 10 grand towards a new car that I could barely afford even with that help. Hell, I'm having a hard time convincing my dad to let me sell my sixer for a GT or just buying a motorcycle, and I can actually afford to do either one of those two since my stang is just about paid for. I honestly dont see why you didnt just do something like get a new edge GT or something like that. Then you could say that you are paying for it, but trying to convince him that your mature and can handle this when you had to take 10 grand from your mom is not going to be easy. Good luck with everything man, I think you're gonna need it.

I got in a fight with my dad tonight after work. He was already pissed off that me and my mom went behind his back and bought the car, and when I walked in he started screaming at me about it. I started screaming back saying we financed it in my moms and I am paying the notes so he has nothing to worry about, and he started bitching about how I don't need a new car until I get out of college and he will never buy me a new car. I reminded him that he said Sophomore year that if I had a 3.0 until Senior year I would get a new car, and he said he meant 'newer'. He told me if I get TOPS (2.5 GPA) I would get a NEWER car, and I said that was a bull**** deal and he swore to me that I would get this car.
A bunch of bad words and such ensued and I'm really pissed off right now. He said he is bringing it back tomorrow, and I will be carless. Can he even do that once we've bought it???
