the base model mustang is not a racing car... it's a looks car... you can make it into a racing car but it'll cost you... ~160-170 rwhp isn't much... it'll move you quicker than a civic but it's still not much... biggest problem with the base model stang is that it's not breathing right... the exhaust and the intake is very restrictive... fix those and you'll have a mean stang... problem is that it's costly to do a valve job and port job on the intake systems and a complete 2.5" dual exhaust setup... but it can be done...
the v6 is not a weak engine. it has a strong block that can take a lot of abuse if built right. the problem with the power is the heads and cam, if you put 1.8 roller rockers on you will gain between 10-20 whp depending on your mods. when i put mine on my car gained almost 25 whp. i am low into the 14s and am thinking about my next mod right now, either a turbo or blower.
So your saying the 1.8 roller rockers are a good investment?? I told you my mods, do you think the 1.8's are worth it???Since im not trying to make it a drag car( no turbo or blower or Nitrous) but just street fast.
the 1.73s would probably add between 5-15 depending on mods. they would be better for the street due to the fact you can use the stock valve springs. go for it.you can find 1.73s at moranaracing.com
i have a civic and i don't have problems with the v6 stang. the 99+ gives a good run .... but i haven't had the chance to run a v6 like matthockey32. whats the normal times for v6 stangs. i have seen everything from low 17s to low 15s.
knightsaber do you have a manual or automatic?

the 99+ v6 usually runs low 16s to low 15s depending on tranny. i have seen a few v6s run 14.9s stock. i have seen and heard of modded v6s run anywhere from mid 14s to mid 10s. i saw a guy with a twin turbo v6 run a 10.5, i don't know the trap because i was in the other lane not beleiving it for about ten minutes until i talked to the guy.
