Default safety switch

Hi, my name is Robert. I'm in the navy and stationed in guam.

been lurking for awhile and usually find everything I need without asking any questions, but now I am stumped.

I just bought my first mustang(not my first car mind you) but it is a 98 V-6, 5 speed with a little over 60k miles about 2 months ago.

Haven't had a problem with it, until just recently.

I went to start it and nothing.

All the guages came on, the ac, radio just like normal, but would not turnover.

The battery is fully charged, no clicking like a dead battery, no grinding like a bad starter, just nothing.

I left it for a couple of hours and it started right up. This is the second time it has happened to me.

I did some googling and came up with a couple of options: possibly the clutch safety switch? or the neutral safety switch?

Both of which I have never dealt with.

If you think it is something else please post up.

If anyone could offer some assistance or advice it would greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I should have stated that....

Yes, I push the clutch all the way down, and nothing changed between the time it wouldn't start and the time it would except for time. All other actions were the same.

Did the key turn all the way? Cause once in a while, my 04 will lock up and won't let my turn the key all the way. I usually just turn the steering wheel as I'm starting it and it goes.

that happens to me too, however my car does some crap liek that too, once in a while it dosent want to start right away its weird some times i have to turn the key twice for it to start but when its warm its starts up no problem like it should im thinkin its prolly just the spark plugs or the wires or something anybody else have anything in mind of why it does this?

What I mentioned earlier happened the day I got the car. I went over my girlfriend's house after work. When I went to leave, I got in the car and it wouldn't start. Now this was around midnight. Do you know what it feels like to have a car you just bought that day not start when you need it to in the middle of the night?

I did turn the key all the way to start.

the steering wheel was unlocked.

I turned the key back to off and then tried again.

It just wouldn't do anything.

I came back 3 hours later and it started right up, no problems.

does anyone know where the safety switch is, so that I can check it?

Because to me, it doesn't sound like an engine, starter or transmission problem.

Thanks for the replies so far.
