new cam
i love the sound with a new cam shaft....i was just wondering how hard is it to replace the cam shaft....do i have to take all the aacesories out of the engine and heads and all....do i need a better exhaust system...right now i just swapped out the muffler
I am wondering the same damn thing as you! I just posted a question on cams, that is my dream mod!! but I am pretty sure that if you get a better cam, you will have to get new heads or at least port. I'm thinking about getting a powerpak, with a cam, valves, and heads. but I need more research first.
All you have to do to get to the cam is takeoff your Air inlet tube, the breather lines, and then the valve covers. The cams are right there. You dont need new heads, but you will require longer pushrods, but if you will take the heads to a machine shop and have them mill the cylinder heads .030", you won't need the pushrods, and you'll raise the compression ratio for more power. It is easy, but i suggest you get more supporting mods first, you will only gain about 25HP. Hope that helps a lil
yea i know where the cam is...i just wasnt sure if i needed to take out the heads to remove the pushrods or what not...i read the whole write up on how to install the powerpack...i mite just wait till i get the powerpak cuz i can get a better cam becuz the heads will be alot better

Getting to the cam on a pushrod is not easy. 1.) Remove the belt off of your pulleys 2.)you have to remove all of the vacume hoses around the intake. 3.) then you have to remove your wiring harness and any electronics in the way 4.) Remove the radiator, the radiator hoses, and the overflow tank 5.) then it's onto the upper intake 6.) remove the fuel lines and then the lower intake 7.) now it's time , for the valve covers, oh be sure to drain you engine of oil, you'll make one hell of a mess if you don't 8.) Now you should be able to remove the water pump 9.) now it's time to carefully remove the heads, you should be able to see the cam at this point 10.) Now you remove the cam, not 100% sure on exactly how to do this, as the push rods will be in the way, so I think they'll have to come out as well
So there you have it, a quick 10 step approach that's gonna take you a couple of days to do. Also, make sure you put your parts in bags and lable the bags 1,2,3 etc, so you know in what order they need to go back on.

Just make sure to not mix up the bolts. That's a pain.
