Tranny question
Purchased a 1996 3.8l for my 16 year old. Had it inspected first and was told that the transmission should be serviced since it has 114mi. Another shop said that you shouldn't change the fluids because it'll cause slippage.Any suggestions on which way to approach would be appreciated.

I used to do all the tranny services for a couple of shops I worked at. I've done well over 100 auto tranny services. MY rule of thumb is, if the tranny has over 70,000 miles on it, and has never had the fluid changed, LEAVE IT ALONE. By changing the fluid at that point, you can A) cause slippage, and B) clean any sludge out that may be blocking points of leakage. Auto tranny fluid is nothing more than a high detergent motor oil.
