Default Steering Not Working Right

I changed the rack and pinion on my car and just got it aligned but when i brake or hit A BUMP THE CAR GOES ALL OVER THE PLACE. IT FEELS LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL IS POSSESSED!! it just pulls and its a serious issue. Could it be the ball joints?? or something to do with the steering column?? I need help badly!!

Like I said.. I had the same problem. Replaced my ball joints, steering has been TIGHT ever since. Warning though, if you replace the ball joints you MIGHT need to get it re-aligned again. I didnt, but it is a possiblity. Look to spend about 50 bucks on the balljoints and 200 on labor, unless you do it yourself. Its probally an allday job for your shadetree mechanic.

how are the tie rod ends? when theyre worn they can cause the wheels to have a lot of unnecessary play

Yes i think its the ball joints. Me replacing the ball joints and the tie rod end were on 2 seperate occasions. When I used to hit bumps, my car would jerk HARD to the right, almost throwing me off the road. After replacing the balljoints, my car hits bumps and the steering wheel doesnt even move. Its so much smoother.

Have you checked your ball joints for freeplay? Also, have you noticed abnormal wear on the inside edge of either front tire. Both are indicative of worn ball joints.
