Default CAI Question

After reading a number of posts regarding CAI, I decided to install one after the 1st of the year (more for the looks, but also for the slight fuel and performance boost). I was talking with a co-worker who builds and races Japanese street cars about it and he asked me what type of driving I do. Living in the L.A. area, 90% of my driving is in bumper-to-bumper traffic - he mentioned that installing a CAI would probably reduce my fuel mileage and hurt my performance due to the engine heat generated while sitting still rather than the cool air flow when moving. My mechanical knowledge is very limited and I rely heavily on others opinions so I am putting it to the forum members on your thoughts. My co-worker does not like American built cars view so his opinions may be biased. Thanks.

He sounds like a ricer. Don't trust him, lol.

It's not gonna reduce anything. You'll be fine.

I have never heard that one before...probably just does not want any American cars having any mods done to them at all. [8D]

If it's a true CAI, then no engine heat won't affect it in stop and go anymore than it would affect a stock intake. Ask him why he thinks what he says is true. You always have lower gas mileage in city driving, because stop and go drains your tank.
