Default v8 engine swap

Alright how hard and expensive would it be to to take a modular engine from a lincoln and put it in a 99 mustang. And if I did so I wouldn't have to pay insurance for a GT would I?

Yes you would have to pay GT insurance. The swap shouldn't be bad so long as you have a complete donor car. If you have to buy parts separately, which with a Lincoln you will have to buy some of them separately, you're looking at some money. You're better off to buy a GT.

swap will cost about $3500 and have alot of down time on your car plus you have to figure out the PATS key

$4000 for a procharger on a 3.8 and you have almost 300rwhp whereas the V8 lincold will put out 200rwhp if it's a 2V 4.6 and 250rwhp if it's a DOHC 4.6 lincoln

now if you scored a navigator engine for under $1000 then go for it. a DOHC 5.4 would be a beast but be prepared to spend $5000 on the swap

yes you have to pay V8 premiums with a swap

Well the main point of the swap would be to doge insurance prices but I guess that wouldn't work out. What iss the cheapest way to get over 200 hp without nitrous or a tune?

if you want a v8 i would suggest just buying a gt or cobra, if you want high hp but "cheap" insurance build the 6 up.

what's wrong with nitrous??? cheap power. 250rwhp and near 300ftlbs of torque with a 100 shot

you could always put every bolt-on on the car plus a cam and get alittle over 200rwhp but with nitrous it will be alot less expensive. $700 and you are in the high 13's with a 99+ 3.8

I don't like the idea of nitrous. I'm going to look into it though but what are my options besides that? Is it really that hard to get another 10 horses out of the v6 without nitrous?

no but an extra 10 horses will put you at 175-180rwhp maximum. factory hp is at the flywheel not the wheels so you will be under 200rwhp with most bolt-ons in place. about 195rwhp is the best you can do with all the bolt-ons and tuner

anyways 10 extra hp won't even be really noticable

Why are there suddenly so many people who want to get to 200hp and stop? wtf is the point of that? My confusion being that most of them are going by flywheel hp, meaning they want a whopping 7-10 hp more. If you're gonna do it, do it all the way. Putting a CAI alone on nearly gaurantees that somewhere down the line you'll do like I'm about to do in a month and a half and spendlike $5,000(SUSPENSION PARTS/LABOR ALONE!!!) on something that returns no benefits besides happiness.

But hey....happiness is priceless. [sm=gears.gif] $11,450 more in partsand my project's complete...on the performance half, anyway. $6,000 for the car. Some $15,500 in parts. $21,500. A new GT costs..what, $10k more and has some 175hp less than what I should have when I'm done? Corners how much worse than I will? GT500s...hell, bring em on. Might as well put a damn Cobra R body kit on it. They only made 385 to the wheels anyway...

*at about this point I realize I started ranting*

You would NOT have to pay GT insurance... That's like saying i had to pay for my SR20DET insurance (2.0L Turbo) when it was supposed to be a 2.4. Just dont report it.
