I am sure you can find a used fox to fix up, or maybe an early sn95.

Either a 5.0 Fox or a first or second gen Eclipse with a 4G63 motor. Both are easy to mod, easy to find parts for and pretty cheap in general. I like the second gen eclipse better, but the first gen is a lot cheaper. As far as the other imports that were named, dont get an Integra. They dont respond very well to basic bolt ons, youd have to swap the motor to get real power from it.

well as far as parts easily available and responding to bolt ons it would be a import

i have personaly have always wanted to get a jetta or a golf and turbo it they respond well to any mods realy but thats just me and they are a little harder to find parts for compared to a honda civic
You're an idiot, this is proven. If you want bang for your buck, look at 5.0L Foxes. Its a mustang. There is no N/A import in yur price range that will be as easy to modify and respond as well to simple bolt ons as a 302ci Fox. Plus, there isnt a respectable import(or crappy ones like Civics and Jettas) that have an aftermarket that can compete with the Mustang. Not only that, you can get a NICE Fox mustang for about 2grand. Thats what im gonna reccomend, please dont waste your money on a $3500 Jetta that is gonna remain slower than your current vehicle until something big gets done to it.

I'm totally with Cliff, here. A 5.0 fox is your best bet. And you'll even start out faster than your car is now. It has a rediculously huge aftermarket. Sure it's a downgrade in looks, but you'll actually get more respect from the general public seeming you have the 5.0, which for some reason everyone thinks is some God of an engine.
